Breitbart News Denied Permanent Capitol Hill Press Credentials
Mark Moore reports at the NYPost:
Breitbart News' request for Capitol Hill press credentials was denied until "more answers" can be provided on whether top White House adviser Steve Bannon has severed ties with the conservative website, according to a report on Monday.
The Standing Committee of the Senate Press Gallery put the request on hold, citing the need for "more answers," The Daily Beast reported.
"Larry Solov, president and CEO of Breitbart, sent a letter seeking permanent press credentials that confirmed that Bannon resigned from the news site in November 2016," the Post reports. "Solov went on to write that Bannon, who helped run the Trump presidential campaign, 'has no editorial, executive, financial or other role or interest' in Breitbart."
Bumps in the road remain for Breitbart. A Standing Committee "member said other than 'us trusting Larry' there was no proof Bannon had cut all ties, the Daily Beast reported," according to the Post.
In addition, members of the board want to "clarify any role conservative donor and President Trump supporter Rebekah Mercer reportedly has in making editorial decisions," the Post reports.
"Mercer's father, hedge-fund billionaire Robert Mercer, invested $10 million in Breitbart, according to The New Yorker," the Post states.
The committee is set to "meet again to consider credentials on April 25," according to the Post. Until then, "reporters for Breitbart will receive temporary passes."
