Human Rights Groups Support Russian Law Protecting Children From Homosexualist Propaganda

By Rick Pearcey • August 30, 2013, 12:51 PM

Stefano Gennarini writes at C-Fam.org:

Human Rights Organizations from around the world are supporting Russia’s effort to protect children from homosexual propaganda.

A statement from civil society affirms the recently enacted Russian law, which imposes fines on individuals and groups that promote homosexuality among minors, as important steps towards fulfilling international obligations towards the family and minors.

"Organizations from around the world are 'rushing' to offer their support, according to Profesionales por la Etica, the Spain-based organization coordinating the effort. In just one week 71 organizations have offered their support," Gennarini writes.

"Russia is protecting 'genuine and universally recognized human rights against artificial and fabricated false values' like sexual orientation and gender identity, according to the statement" from Profesionales por la Etica, Gennarini continues.

"The statement recognizes the Russian law as an effort to protect the family, the fundamental group unit of society. The law is about protecting the 'innocence of children' and the 'rights of parents,'" according to Gennarini.

"While critics of the Russian law claim it violates the human rights of homosexuals, they find it difficult to address to the stated reason for enacting the laws, namely the negative health consequences of homosexual activity, Gennarini observes.

For example, "the Lancet reported last summer that homosexuals are 18 times more likely to contract HIV than heterosexuals, due to a combination of biological and behavioral risks associated with homosexual activity," Gennarini writes. "Moreover, HIV is receding in most of the world, except among homosexual populations where it is skyrocketing. Homosexuals are also at higher risk for substance abuse, suicide, and depression."

Michael Farris: We Need Convention of the States Now

By Rick Pearcey • August 30, 2013, 08:41 AM

Farris writes:

Which do we reasonably fear more? A runaway federal government on a path to destroy our liberty? Or a convention of the states given the clear and enforceable mandate to correct the abuses of power by the federal government?

Many knowledgeable conservative scholars have made the unimpeachable case that the checks and balances contained in Article V will prevent any mischief. For heaven’s sake, 38 states are required to ratify a new amendment. If we can’t get 13 states to stop something crazy, we are wasting our time trying to save the republic.

Day by day and year by year, Washington, D.C., is deliberately and persistently increasing its power. Washington, D.C., will never fix itself. The framers gave the states the power to amend the Constitution to limit the power of the federal government should it abuse the original document.

That abuse is more than apparent to any reasonable American. A convention of states under Article V is our only realistic hope of saving our liberty. I fear Washington, D.C., far more than I fear the Founders, the states and Article V.

Homosexual Lawmaker to Parents -- We'll Take Your Children

By Rick Pearcey • August 28, 2013, 06:56 AM

Columnist and lawyer Matt Barber writes:

Few people doubt that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie hopes to become president in 2016. Unfortunately for him, he may have just signed away any chance of that.

On Monday, [August 19,] Christie signed A3371, a draconian piece of legislation that bars licensed therapists from helping children overcome unwanted same-sex attractions, behavior or identity. This law bans help for minors even when -- as is so often the case -- those same-sex attractions arise from childhood sexual abuse by the likes of a Jerry Sandusky.

This law will prohibit minors and their parents from receiving counseling they desire and will force counselors to violate ethical codes because they will not be able to help clients reach their own counseling goals. This law would enslave children -- whether abused or not -- to a subjectively determined sexual identity that they reject.

The connection between homosexual abuse and "gay identity" is undeniable. Consider this: Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have found that homosexual men are "at least three times more likely to report CSA (childhood sexual abuse)" than heterosexual men.

Moreover, the Archives of Sexual Behavior -- no bastion of conservatism -- determined in a 2001 study that nearly half of all gay-identified men were molested by a homosexual pedophile: "46 percent of homosexual men and 22 percent of homosexual women reported having been molested by a person of the same gender. This contrasts to only 7 percent of heterosexual men and 1 percent of heterosexual women reporting having been molested by a person of the same gender," noted the study.

For obvious reasons, this politically motivated law has been dubbed the "Jerry Sandusky Victimization Act." Liberty Counsel, one of the fastest growing civil rights law firms in the country, has stepped in to protect New Jersey children, parents, and licensed therapists. We’ve filed suit to block the law, as we’ve already blocked a similar law in California.

In his signing statement, Gov. Christie wrote: "Government should tread carefully into this area and I do so here reluctantly. I have scrutinized this piece of legislation with that concern in mind. However, I also believe that on issues of medical treatment for children we must look to experts in the field to determine the relative risks and rewards."

Beyond the fact that Christie and the New Jersey Legislature have just violated the First Amendment rights of New Jersey parents, children, and counselors, there remains another problem with his assertion. It’s not true. As with any form of therapy, the "experts" are all over the board on the issue of change therapy.

For instance, both New Jersey Democrats and Christie cited the American Psychological Association, or APA, as justification for this gross infringement on the right of self-determination. Although, no doubt, the highly liberal APA supports this and similar Sandusky Laws for political reasons, the group’s own task force on change therapy -- led entirely by members who themselves are "gay"-identified or known political activists -- has had to admit, nonetheless, that homosexuality itself "refers to feelings and self-concept."

The taskforce confessed that such therapy has shown "varying degrees of satisfaction and varying perceptions of success." It acknowledged within its own skewed, very limited "study" that some people had "altered their sexual orientation. . . . [P]articipants had multiple endpoints, including LGB identity, ex-gay identity, no sexual orientation identity, and a unique self-identity. . . . Individuals report a range of effects from their efforts to change their sexual orientation, including both benefits and harm."

Reports of "both benefits and harm"? Exactly what might be expected from any form of therapy.

But that’s for adults. Here’s the kicker: The APA also acknowledged that there is no evidence whatsoever that change therapy harms minors. Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, addressed this, the most outrageous aspect of the law: "The very report that the governor cited for signing this law also admitted that there is absolutely zero research -- none -- regarding the effect of change therapy with minors."

Get that? Gov. Christie just signed into law a bill purporting to prevent harm to minors from change therapy, citing, as the reason, an APA report that admits there is neither research nor empirical evidence to suggest that change therapy harms minors.

Is your head swimming? It should be.

The governor is one of three things. He is either: 1) ill-informed, 2) politically motivated, or 3) stupid.

I don’t know, I guess he could be 4) all of the above.

Meanwhile, there are many experts outraged over this gross overreach by Christie and other New Jersey liberals. Dr. Nicholas Cummings, former president of the APA, wrote in USA Today: "Contending that all same-sex attraction is immutable is a distortion of reality. Attempting to characterize all sexual reorientation therapy as 'unethical' violates patient choice and gives an outside party a veto over patients' goals for their own treatment. A political agenda shouldn’t prevent gays and lesbians who desire to change from making their own decisions."

Dr. Cummings has testified to personally helping hundreds of formerly homosexual clients achieve the change they desired.

Things get more sinister yet.

On Wednesday, New Jersey Assemblyman Tim Eustace, who sponsored the bill and is openly homosexual, bombastically compared change therapy to "beating a child" and suggested that the government take children seeking change away from their parents. He told Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, "What this does is prevent things that are harmful to people. If a parent were beating their child on a regular basis we would step in and remove that child from the house. If you pay somebody to beat your child or abuse your child, what’s the difference?"

Mat Staver responded on the same program: "It is shocking to hear the law’s sponsor threaten parents that the state will remove their children from them if they provide the counsel they need and which helps them. This is the ultimate nanny state," he said.

I’ll take it a step further, and I think I speak for many Christian fathers. None of my three children suffer from unwanted same-sex attraction, but if any of them did and they decided to seek change therapy to reconcile their feelings with their faith, Mr. Eustace and the rest of his Gaystapo would be extremely ill-advised to crest my front porch with designs on taking my children.

Is this George Washington’s America, or Joseph Stalin’s Russia?

Dear Barack: Here's Why I Don't Wish You Well

By Rick Pearcey • August 27, 2013, 09:31 AM

Mychal Massie writes:

This is intended to be an open letter to you, Barack Obama.

I will dispense with the usual salutatory "Dear Mr. blah blah" because to address you as same would mean that I accept you as my president, which I cannot and do not.

I know my words will offend those for whom the color of your skin means more than the quality of your job performance, but I place a high premium on the performance of the man who occupies the position you do -- a performance that ought to be based on leadership, loyalty to America, and adherence to the Constitution of the United States.

I view you, in the absence of any of those qualities, as a seat-holder for an American leader who embodies those qualities and who has respect for We the People of this great nation, which you are doing your best to defile.

A Little Reminder of What a Left-Wing Extremist "Filthy" Bob Filner Was

By Rick Pearcey • August 26, 2013, 08:07 AM

From Daniel Greenfield at Frontpagemag.com, this, among other things, in the political profile of the disgraced former mayor of San Diego:

Bob Filner was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in September 1942 and grew up in New York City. His father, Joseph Filner, was a member of the Communist Party USA. . . .

Also, Filner apparently "had a quite Islamic attitude when it came to women. Or is that progressive? These days it’s hard to tell."

Sen. Coburn: Obama "Perilously Close" to Impeachment

By Rick Pearcey • August 23, 2013, 09:24 AM

Cathy Burke reports at Newsmax:

President Obama is moving "perilously close" to impeachment, Sen. Tom Coburn told a town hall crowd this week, two reports said Thursday. . . .

Coburn repeatedly called the president's administration "lawless," telling the crowd of 300 at the Muskogee Convention Center there should be a national constitutional convention to counter it -- and to cut down an oversized federal government, the Tulsa World reported.

"I used to have a great fear of constitutional conventions," he said. "I have a great fear now of not having one."

Scandinavian Rape, Scandinavian Blinders

By Rick Pearcey • August 22, 2013, 10:41 AM

Bruce Bawer writes at Frontpagemag.com:

Scandinavia’s rising rape figures aren’t the fault of the police. As everyone without blinders on knows by now, this is a story about failed immigration policies and about Islam, which teaches contempt for infidels -- especially unveiled women. As Scandinavia’s Muslim population has risen, so have the rape statistics.

Public School Promotes 5 Pillars of Islam

By Rick Pearcey • August 20, 2013, 07:14 AM

Todd Starnes writes at Fox News:

Parents at a Wichita, Kan. elementary school were shocked to discover a giant wall display inside the building promoting the five pillars of Islam.

The large exhibit was erected before the start of the school year as part of a religion component being taught at Minneha Core Knowledge Magnet School, a school district spokesperson told Fox News.

"The bulletin board that originally caused the concern does represent the 5 Pillars of Islam -- in a historical context of their studies," the spokesman is quoted as saying.

According to Starnes, "The district said the photograph of the bulletin board is misleading because it is 'without context'."

"There is also a painting of the Last Supper hanging in the school as part of the study of art and the Renaissance period," the spokesman is also quoted as saying. "A photo take of a bulletin board without context is misleading, and some have taken it out of context without having all the information."

"Nevertheless," Starnes writes, "the school has removed the Islamic bulletin board until the subject matter is taught later this fall."

Republicans Vote to Boycott CNN, NBC Debates If Clinton Specials Air

By Rick Pearcey • August 16, 2013, 01:07 PM

Fox News reports:

The Republican National Committee [RNC] has voted to boycott any presidential primary debates planned by CNN and NBC if they proceed with lengthy television features on Hillary Clinton, widely expected to be a 2016 Democratic candidate.

With no audible dissent, GOP officials approved a resolution backing the position at their annual summer meeting in Boston on Friday.

The RNC claims that a Clinton-themed documentary and a separate miniseries -- in the works from CNN and NBC, respectively -- will put a "thumb on the scales" in the upcoming 2016 presidential election.

"Before the vote, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus decried what he called the 'obvious bias' of a network that would spotlight Clinton in this fashion," Fox reports.

"We're done putting up with this nonsense. There are plenty of other outlets. We'll still reach voters, maybe more voters. But CNN and NBC anchors will just have to watch on their competitors' networks," Priebus is quoted as saying. "The media overplayed their hand this time."

Obamacare Troops Planning Home Visits

By Rick Pearcey • August 16, 2013, 07:42 AM

Bob Unruh writes at WND:

As you prepare for the IRS to start monitoring your health insurance and make your medical records accessible to thousands, perhaps you also should vacuum your floor, wash the windows and lock up any weapons, should you be so unwise as to actually have them.

It’s all in readiness for Obamacare, which will include home visits for many citizens, maybe even everyone, depending on the interpretation of the law.

Blogger Joshua Cook at BenSwann.com highlighted the issue just this week, although it’s been evident for some time.

He points out that the federal government is allocating hundreds of millions of dollars for state programs for "evidence-based home" visits.

"Health and Human Services' website states that your family will be targeted if you fall under the 'high-risk' categories below: Families where mom is not yet 21. Families where someone is a tobacco user. Families where children have low student achievement, developmental delays, or disabilities. Families with individuals who are serving or formerly served in the armed forces, including such families that have members of the armed forced who have had multiple deployments outside the United States," Cook wrote.

National Tea Party Group to Endorse Nancy Mace Against Lindsey Graham

By Rick Pearcey • August 14, 2013, 12:13 PM

Matthew Boyle reports at Breitbart:

The Tea Party Leadership Fund has decided to endorse Nancy Mace, a conservative challenger to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), in the upcoming GOP Senate primary in the state, Breitbart News nas learned. . . .

Mace appeared on Breitbart News Sunday with Stephen K. Bannon this weekend to discuss why she is running, her history as a small business owner, and being the first woman to graduate from The Citadel. She said the military environment she was brought up in will help her stick to conservative principles if South Carolina voters send her to Washington in place of Graham.

"Do you bend your values and your principles to conform to the quote-unquote establishment to go along to get along, or do you stay firm and stay strong in what you believe in to be successful?" Mace said of her Citadel military history. "And I learned the latter."

According to her campaign website, the following indicates where Mace stands on the role of government, the 2nd Amendment, and the right to life:

Role of Government: "Our Founding Fathers created a constitution intended to be a guide for the decisions a government accountable to the people would make. The problem we face today, however, is that the government has overreached its boundaries into nearly every corner of our lives, and yet we are still not better off for it. . . .

"The politicians don’t understand, they don’t decide what rights we get to have and what rights we lose. Our Rights come from our Creator and are guaranteed by our Constitution."

2nd Amendment: "My father was a decorated combat veteran, and lifelong hunter who taught me how to handle a firearm at an early age. Hunting trips with my father provided priceless memories, but our second amendment rights have a deeper purpose than sport and the right to defend our homes and property. We have a duty as a free people to protect against tyranny."

Right to Life: "As it is rightly stated in the Declaration of Independence, we should all have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I do not believe it was an accident that our Founders listed life as the first of our God given rights. As a pro-life conservative I believe we should defend life and liberty from conception to natural death."

Stage Set for Molestations, Privacy Violations in California Schools

By Rick Pearcey • August 13, 2013, 10:19 AM

Becky Yeh writes at OneNewsNow:

With the stroke of a pen on Monday, California became the first state to enshrine rights for transgender students in state law -- setting the stage, say pro-family leaders, for young girls to be molested in school locker rooms by boys who believe they are girls.

Without comment, California Governor Jerry Brown yesterday signed into law a bill (AB 1266) strengthening the rights of transgender students (K-12) in the state’s public schools.

It makes the Golden State the first state in the nation to allow participation in "sex-segregated programs, activities, and facilities" in public schools based on a student's gender identity.

Under the new law, public schools will be required to allow the students access to whichever restroom and locker room they want -- and it would allow boys to take showers with girls just because they say they feel they are female.

"It's an outrageous and egregious violation of the privacy and decency for young women and young girls all throughout the state of California,” Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute is quoted as saying. "This new law will even allow boys to play on girl's athletic teams. So this is a serious violation of the fundamental right of young people up and down the state of California."

All of this is allowed "under the guise of providing special rights and protections for children with a gender-identity disorder," Yeh writes. "If a boy wants to molest a girl, he can follow her into a restroom and violate her."

Comment: To paraphrase bluesy rocker Janis Joplin, freedom's just another word for no privacy left to lose.

Inalienable rights -- rooted in the Creator, as opposed to sociological fads posing as "rights," left, right, or center -- lift a people up and help to set them free. But phony rights, even when duly enacted into law by people wearing suits and ties, hurt them and bring them down. A culture can drown in the sewage of its "mainstream."

Mark Levin: States Should Call Convention to Propose Amending Constitution

By Rick Pearcey • August 12, 2013, 10:12 AM

Terry Jeffrey writes at CNSNews.com:

Mark Levin, the nationally syndicated radio host who served as chief of staff in the Justice Department during the Reagan Administration, argues in his new book -- The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic -- that state legislatures should use the authority granted them in the Constitution to call a convention to propose amendments to the Constitution.

"It is the only way out," Levin said in an interview on CNSNews.com’s Online With Terry Jeffrey. "The federal government, Congress, the Supreme Court, the president, the bureaucracy, they are not going to reform themselves, they are not going to limit their activities. Only we can -- through our state representatives from the bottom up."

Agent: IRS Still Targeting Tea Party Groups

By Rick Pearcey • August 9, 2013, 08:52 AM

Todd Beamon reports at Newsmax:

The Internal Revenue Service is still targeting tea party and conservative groups in their applications for tax-exempt status, a full three months after the scandal first erupted.

"In plain English, the IRS is still targeting tea party cases," an aide to Rep. Dave Camp, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, told the Washington Examiner.

Camp, a Michigan Republican, released a transcript of testimony from an IRS agent who told a Ways and Means investigator that the agency was still targeting such groups, the Examiner reports.

The testimony was given in a closed-door session on Aug. 1, according to the Examiner.

No Domestic Spying Program? Did Obama Lie to Leno?

By Rick Pearcey • August 8, 2013, 10:19 AM

David Seaman writes at the Daily Caller:

President Obama did a face to face interview with comedian Jay Leno on the "The Tonight Show," because our commander in chief wouldn’t dare give such access to, say, anyone remotely resembling a journalist at this point. Too many of those "phony scandals" to wade through.

Obama offered a fantastic fireworks display of dishonesty and Orwellian doublespeak to Leno’s 4 million or so viewers at home.

"We don’t have a domestic spying program," Obama assured Leno. What we have, instead, are "mechanisms that can track a phone number or an e-mail address that is connected to a terrorist attack . . . That information is useful."

Which is the very definition of a domestic spying program: obtaining American citizens’ phone records and one-click access to emails, Facebook messages, and all Web history without a specific warrant. And then sharing that data with domestic law enforcement agencies, in a secretive agreement Reuters claims the government is now actively trying to cover up.

Ho Chi Minh, Obama’s Freedom Fighter

By Rick Pearcey • August 7, 2013, 02:23 PM

Paul Kengor writes at American Spectator:

All I wanted to do last week was enjoy my vacation. Instead, I was assaulted by another breathtaking statement from the president of the United States, provided courtesy of an official White House press release. The occasion was a July 25 meeting between President Obama and the leader of communist Vietnam. Obama stated: "President Sang shared with me a copy of a letter sent by Ho Chi Minh to Harry Truman. And we discussed the fact that Ho Chi Minh was actually inspired by the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and the words of Thomas Jefferson."

This, of course, is utter nonsense. Ho Chi Minh was a committed Marxist-Leninist revolutionary who cut his teeth at Moscow’s Lenin School. He became one of the Soviet Comintern’s most successful agents. Among the testimonies to his efforts are the countless boat people from Vietnam who now live in America (many of whom voted for Obama).

"But not only is Obama’s statement nonsense," Kengor writes, "it’s also the product of communist propaganda." For example:

In 2010, I published a book called Dupes: How America’s Adversaries Have Manipulated Progressives for a Century. There, I shared numerous lines cooked up by Communist Party USA (CPUSA) to dupe liberals. One of them was precisely the line Obama echoed on July 25. CPUSA and its mouthpieces regularly compared Ho Chi Minh to the American Founders, claiming he was fighting for the ideas not of the Bolshevik Revolution but of the American Revolution. This line was employed constantly, and it worked magically with wide-eyed liberals. . . .

CNN Doubles Down on Hillary Clinton Propaganda Flick

By Rick Pearcey • August 6, 2013, 12:30 PM

Daniel Greenfield writes at Frontpagemag:

After the RNC threatened to boycott NBC and CNN over their Hillary propaganda projects, CNN replied in the most predictable way possible.

CNN Films, a division of CNN Worldwide, commissioned a documentary about Hillary Clinton earlier this year. It is expected to premiere in 2014 with a theatrical run prior to airing on CNN. This documentary will be a non-fiction look at the life of a former First Lady and Secretary of State.

. . . who happens to be running for president.

It’s also CNN’s first film about a political candidate.

CNN then goes on to ask critics to "reserve judgment until they know more."

"Reserve judgement about what?" Greenfield counters. "CNN is making a movie about a 2016 presidential candidate. It doesn’t appear to be doing that favor for any of the other candidates."

Moreover, the "project is being produced by a Hillary backer from a family close to the Clintons." "How much judgement is left to reserve?" Greenfield concludes. "Unless this thing turns out to be an animated cartoon about field mice, we’re done here."

Islamist Group in America: We’ll Impose Sharia on Christians

By Rick Pearcey • August 5, 2013, 08:09 AM

Hizb ut-Tahrir, a group so radical that the Muslim Brotherhood won’t even touch it, lives and breathes in America. Part of the reason it’s a fringe group in the U.S. is because it is mostly honest about its objectives.

For example, one of its websites answers a question about the status of Christians in an Islamic State by frankly admitting that Sharia is imposed upon them and other non-Muslims.

Lee Leads, Boehner Cowers

By Rick Pearcey • August 1, 2013, 01:01 PM

Terry Jeffrey at CNSNews.com asks:

How would you react if House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, ordered you to pay for health-insurance plans that provide abortions?

Or ordered you to give President Barack Obama the money he needs to implement a regulation that forces Christians to act against their faith?

Or cut a deal with Obama to give Obama the money to enforce Obamacare's dictatorial health-insurance mandate on individuals -- but not on big businesses?

Would you consider Boehner a good conservative? A good Republican? A leader who stands with courage in defense of liberty?

"The truth is Boehner has already cut deals with Obama that made you pay for the initial implementation of Obamacare," Jeffrey writes.

"He now appears poised to cut another deal," Jeffrey continues. "This one will make you pay for the final implementation of Obamacare. It will make you pay for the actual enforcement of a regulation that forces Christians to act against their faith. It will make you pay for the actual enforcement of the individual mandate -- but not the employer mandate Obama has suspended. And it will make you pay for a new system of federal subsidies that will move a large part of the middle class onto the dole and allow people to use tax dollars to buy health plans that provide abortions."

Can this be stopped? Is there an alternative to this "leaderhship"? Yes, says Jeffrey.

"Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, is now urging the same plan King and Bachmann urged two years ago," Jeffrey writes. "Prohibit all funding for Obamacare in the next CR. In a recent interview, Lee told me he was urging House Republicans to pass a CR that defunds Obamacare. He said he will propose a defunding amendment to any CR that comes up in the Senate."

Meanwhile, what has Boehner been up to? "At a press conference last week, Boehner was asked about Lee's plan. 'We have not made any decisions about how we're going to deal with the CR,' said Boehner."

Jeffrey concludes: "Mike Lee is emerging as a new leader in the cause of liberty. John Boehner appears to be cowering again."

Ted Cruz: I'd "Love to Debate" Rove on Obamacare Defunding -- Video

By Rick Pearcey • August 1, 2013, 10:31 AM

Tony Lee writes at Breitbart:

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said on Fox News's "Hannity" Tuesday that he "would love to debate" Republican strategist Karl Rove on defunding Obamacare.

Cruz insisted that the federal government has never rolled back a massive government program like Obamacare once fully implemented. He also said that the Obama administration wants to get Americans "addicted" to the Obamacare subsidies and "hooked to the sugar." . . .

Cruz then said conservatives then needed to win the argument by asking, "Why is President Obama threatening to shut down the entire federal government to force Obamacare down our threats?"

Rove had been on the "Hannity" show "earlier and said that Republicans should not threaten to defund Obamacare during the next round of budget negotiations because it was a losing strategy," Lee writes.

"I'm pretty sure you lose 100% of the battles that you begin surrendering," Cruz responded.

Here is video of Cruz on "Hannity."
